Safety

Security

Conrail calls upon all of its employees and the public at large to remain alert for potential security threats. Conrail calls upon everyone to use a three-step Recognize, Record, & Report process to help create a safe, secure railroad.

EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBER:

(800) 272-0911

Recognize

Everyone is familiar with the railroad sights and routines they see every day. Recognize variations in the routine, such as people taking note of train movements or operations, trespassers, or unusual vehicles or equipment. Remember, Conrail, CSX, and NS employees always wear reflective railroad vests when working in our right-of-way.

Record

Record any observed suspicious behavior with as much fact-based detail as possible. Note the location of the incident, including address, cross streets, and mileposts or crossing DOT numbers. If people are involved, note their appearance.

Report

It’s important that you report observations of suspicious persons or activities clearly and accurately. Never put yourself at risk by confronting strangers. Always remember, no one is allowed on railroad property without permission from the railroad. Trespassing on railroad property is dangerous and illegal. This includes tracks, rights of way, yards, buildings, and rail facilities of all types. It is illegal to cross tracks while the crossing gates are down or to walk between the rails or along the tracks beyond the crossing. For your safety and the safety of others, please stay off of railroad tracks and property.
