Continuing Education Assistance:

Conrail offers a tuition assistance program for employees who want to further their education by taking courses in a business-related area. Courses must be taken at an accredited university, college, or public vocational school. They may include Associate or Bachelor degree programs, graduate courses directly related to an employee’s current position, and non-degree programs leading to a professional license or certification. Costs covered by the program include tuition, registration, required textbooks, and lab fees. All courses require prior approval by an employee’s supervisor or Department Head.

Dollars for Doers:

Conrail appreciates the contribution our employees make in their local communities through volunteer activities. We honor our employees’ spirit of service and seek to support their volunteer efforts through the Dollars for Doers program. For every hour an employee volunteers at an eligible non-profit organization, he or she earns $10 towards a charitable contribution that Conrail will make to a non-profit organization of the employee’s choice. To qualify, employees must volunteer a minimum of 15 hours and up to a maximum of 40 hours during a calendar year.

Medical – Return to Work:

The Conrail Medical Department’s process for returning an employee to work following a long non-medical absence (e.g., furlough, military leave, discipline, leave of absence) or a medically-related absence depends upon each employee’s specific situation. Each situation is handled by the Medical Department on a case-by-case basis to ensure that an employee returning to duty from a medical or non-medical absence can safety perform the essential functions of his or her job with or without a reasonable accommodation. Because an individual assessment is always conducted, the exact return to work process may vary.

When evaluating an employee’s fitness for duty, the Medical Department may request additional medical information from the employee’s treating doctor(s) along with any recommended work restrictions and/or accommodations that may be needed. An employee may also be asked to undergo further evaluation by a company approved physician.

An employee can assist with the return to work process by ensuring that their doctor(s) provide the requested information to the Medical Department as soon as possible.

Employees can access general return to work information on the ERC (Employee Resource Center), by calling the Medical Department General Information Line at: 1-800-552-2306, or clicking on the links below:
